The United States will end or reduce military operations at an additional 27 facilities overseas, mostly in Germany, as a part of continuing post-Cold War defense cuts, the Pentagon said Thursday.

The cuts are at 24 sites in Germany, two at Lajes Field in the Azores and one at a radar site in Iceland, the Pentagon said. Thursday’s announcement of 21 closings and six reductions brought to 871 the number of U.S. installations in Europe where operations are being ended, reduced or placed on standby.
