Freshman Zebbie Lethridge passed for three touchdowns to help Texas Tech upset No. 19 Texas, 33-9, on Saturday at Lubbock, Tex., to keep alive the Red Raiders’ hopes of playing in the Cotton Bowl.

Texas Tech, 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Southwest Conference, jumped to a 21-0 lead and Texas (5-3, 2-2) was unable to challenge. The Longhorns were bothered by an offense that sputtered and a defense that gave up 111 yards rushing in 28 carries to another freshman, Byron Hanspard.

Lethridge, who completed 12 of 24 passes for 153 yards, passed for touchdowns of 25, seven and 10 yards.

Texas Christian 27, Rice 25--Max Knake passed for four touchdowns and Andre Davis ran for 221 yards to lead the Horned Frogs at Ft. Worth, Tex.

TCU (5-3, 2-2) re-entered the conference title chase on a day that left five of the seven contenders with two losses and no clear leader of the pack.
