Blaze Destroys 9 Condo Structures

A massive fire raged for almost two hours early Sunday at a condominium construction site in Lincoln Heights, causing about $6.5 million in damage.

Investigators do not yet know the cause of the fire, which started at 2:09 a.m. at City View Terrace, a set of 19 buildings at 3711 E. Baldwin St., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said. The fire swept through nine structures, destroying 68 of the site’s 106 units. About 150 firefighters and two helicopters were called to the scene, Collis said, and the fire was extinguished at 3:53 a.m. There were no injuries, he said.

“The whole (complex) was in the framing stage, which makes for a wonderful fire,” Collis said. “It’s like an organized pile of kindling.”
