In Brief
* * Hoodoo Gurus, “Crank,” Zoo. Crank these Aussies do. Blistering guitars and adrenaline-infused vocals notwithstanding, the quartet still sounds too often like Midnight Oil Lite. “Judgement Day,” a nihilistic Bee Gees-meet-Crazy-Horse take, works well enough, as do some of the full-throttle thrashers. Ultimately, their trademark style-hopping leaves the feeling that there’s no there here.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
