OUTLOOK
With no starters back and only three lettermen returning, the Matadors don’t figure to reach last year’s victory total. Cardoza is working with an old, but inexperienced group of players who aren’t very big. “Quickness will be our strength,” Cardoza said. “We’ll attack teams with our quickness. Hopefully, our guards will be able to force turnovers before teams are able to throw over the top of us.” Park, the sixth man last year, is the team’s most reliable inside scorer and Tan, the starting off guard, is the Matadors’ best three-point shooter. Chavez, who played junior varsity last year, will start at center and be backed by Fair, an all-league water polo player in his first year of basketball. “He’s big and strong and he should give us some good minutes and more five fouls to give.” Guerra will start at point guard and Price, the football team’s starting quarterback, gives Cardoza some bulk and athleticism at power forward.
