RANCHO PALOS VERDES : City to Weigh Plan to Double Size of Center
- Share via
City officials are considering doubling the size of the interpretive center at Point Vicente, a Rancho Palos Verdes bluff-top popular for whale watching.
The City Council voted 4 to 0 earlier this month to pay a consultant up to $35,000 to draw up plans for expanding the interpretive center, which now includes a museum, gift store and viewing area.
Doubling the interpretive center’s 2,200 square feet is expected to cost about $750,000 from the Measure A Parks Act bond passed in 1992. The city has been awarded a total of $2.4 million in Measure A money.
Senior citizens advocates urged the council to dedicate space in the interpretive center for administration and counseling services for seniors.
The council said that before hiring the consultant, it will discuss space for seniors at the interpretive center with the recreation and parks committee.
