MANHATTAN BEACH : Chevron Gives $25,000 to Help City Library

Chevron Oil Co. has donated $25,000 to Manhattan Beach to benefit the city’s library.
The donation, made at a Nov. 15 City Council meeting, will help city officials upgrade the technology used in cataloguing books, officials said.
“We’d like to put some things on CD-ROM,” said Jim Wolfe, city Parks and Recreation director. “That’s the way things are going these days.”
The city has spent thousands of dollars this year to keep the library open additional hours after the county cut funding for library services. As a result, the library’s services have been neglected, Wolfe said.
The city’s library commission is expected to recommend how the money should be spent before a final decision is made, he said.
