Highlights

For the second consecutive season, St. Margaret’s went undefeated (8-0) in league play and reached the Division V-AA playoffs. And for the second season in a row, the Tartans lost in the first round, this time to Capistrano Valley Christian, 46-42. St. Margaret’s only other defeat last season was to Capistrano Valley Christian, which moves to the Academy League in 1994-95. . . . Liberty Christian fell victim to Heritage Christian in the first round of the playoffs. . . . Susan Heydenrych was a first-team all-league selection for the second consecutive season. Kirsten Cappel and Georgina Cervantes of Connelly, Shay Trette of St. Margaret’s and Lynlee Vaccaro of Liberty Christian also were selected. . . . St. Margaret’s Brady Lock was coach of year.

Highlights

The Arrowhead League sent four teams to the Division V-AA playoffs and each lost in the first round. Sherman Indian easily won the league title, but for the second consecutive season, lost to Arrowhead Christian, 66-43, in the playoffs. Anza Hamilton lost to the Olympic League’s at-large team, Ontario Christian, 44-15. La Sierra Academy lost to San Bernardino Aquinas, 57-25, and CSDR was defeated, 56-29, by La Canada Flintridge Prep. Southern California Christian failed to make the playoffs, finishing last in the league without a victory.

Downey Calvary Chapel finished second in the league and lost in the first round of the Division V-AA playoffs to Avalon. . . . Heritage Christian was defeated by third-seeded Rio Hondo Prep in the second round, 60-38. Rio Hondo Prep advanced to the State regionals, where it lost in the first round. Heritage Christian defeated Liberty Christian, the Academy League’s No. 2 finisher, in the first round of the playoffs. Heritage Christian’s Alisia Kean was a first-team all-league pick, averaging 15 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Christa Larson received all-league honorable mention honors.

Highlights

Five teams from the Olympic League went to the playoffs last season. Capistrano Valley Christian, which earned an at-large berth, made an impressive run, making it to the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs, where it lost to Cambria Coast Union, 65-55. Andie Shaffner had 12 points and 13 rebounds in the defeat. The Eagles defeated St. Margaret’s, the Academy League’s top team, 46-42, in a first-round matchup, and Avalon, 50-21 in the second round. . . . Whittier Christian, which also received an at-large berth in the playoffs, made a surprising run. The Heralds were eventually defeated by second-seeded Sun Valley Village Christian, 60-49, in the quarterfinals. Village Christian made it to the State regional semifinals before losing. Alana Kempton, a first-team all-league selection, scored 16 points in Whittier Christian’s losing effort. The Heralds’ ride began with a defeat of Alverno in the wild-card round, 40-27, and then an upset of Agoura Oak Park, the Tri-Valley League champion, 52-46, coming from 12 points down in the third quarter. Monique Moreno, also a first-team all-league selection, led her team with 15 points and went four for four at the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds to help secure the victory. . . . Orange Lutheran lost in the wild-card round, 71-62, to Cantwell Sacred Heart. Calvary Chapel, which also lost in the first round, fell to Riverside Notre Dame, 40-38. League champion Cerritos Valley Christian won its third consecutive Southern Section title and advanced to the State regional semifinals, where it lost to Santa Ynez, 65-60. . . . Blythe Linsey of Calvary Chapel, Shaffner from Capistrano Valley Christian, and Kristin Weddick and Lori Wright of Orange Lutheran were first-team all-league selections.
