SIMI VALLEY : Police Catch Suspects at Burglary Scene
Carrying stolen coins and jewelry, two would-be burglars left the Simi Valley house they were looting and walked into the waiting arms of several police officers, a police report said.
Devin Colwell, 18, and Benjamin Connell, 22, were held on suspicion of taking part in a midday burglary, according to Officer Vernon Trujillo’s report.
A neighbor reported that a burglary was going on inside the house of Gary Kinoshita, 49, on the 2300 block of Collier Court on Wednesday, the report said.
Police officers and detectives took up posts around the house and grabbed the men when they left, the report said. Police reportedly found property stolen from the house.
Police also found that Connell--who is a friend of a girl who lives at the house--was holding a key to the house that he had no permission to use, Sgt. Archer Morgan said.
Police booked the two men at the East Valley Sheriff’s Station in Thousand Oaks. The men were taken later to Ventura County Jail, where they were being held Thursday evening: Connell in lieu of $20,000 bond and Colwell without bond because of an outstanding warrant for defrauding an innkeeper, jail officials said.
