Sylmar Goes for Another Title Against Crenshaw in City 4-A
Sylmar High goes for its second City Section Division 4-A title in the last three years today, when it meets Crenshaw at El Camino College. Kickoff is at noon.
The teams last played each other in the quarterfinals in 1992, with Sylmar winning, 28-2.
The top-seeded Spartans (13-0) held on for a 28-27 overtime victory over Wilmington Banning in the quarterfinals on their way to the championship game. Crenshaw’s closest call was a 26-19 victory over league rival Dorsey in last week’s semifinal.
Crenshaw (12-1) likes to run, with 1,000-yard rushers Farrel Payton and Brandon Seals leading the attack.
Sylmar mixes it up. Junior Durell Price, who also starts at linebacker, has rushed for 1,770 yards and 26 touchdowns. Quarterback Greg Marquez has passed for 1,429 yards and 19 touchdowns.
