BURBANK : Float Dismantling Party Scheduled
After recruiting dozens of volunteers to build its prize-winning entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade, the city of Burbank is now looking for more volunteers to help dismantle it.
Burbank’s float, dubbed “Reach for the Wind,” won the Founder’s Trophy Award, which is given to the best float built and decorated entirely by volunteers. Burbank’s was one of only six floats in this year’s parade built by an all-volunteer crew.
Since Wednesday, the float has been on display at George Izay Park in the 1000 block of West Olive Avenue, where it will remain until Monday. On Jan. 14 and 15, volunteers are needed to help dismantle the float shell and to remove the float’s dried flowers, which will be made into potpourri that will be sold at fund-raisers to support the building of next year’s float, organizers said.
The float dismantling party will include a barbecue. For more information, call (818) 840-0060.
