Fluor Daniel Inc.: The company said Monday that it is a partner in the building of a $550-million copper smelter in Indonesia.
Construction on the project, which is being undertaken in cooperation with Japan’s Mitsubishi Group and New Orleans-based Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc., will begin this year, pending approvals.
The smelter, to be located in Gresik, East Java, is to begin operating in the second half of 1998.
Fluor, the Irvine-based engineering and construction company, will have a 10% equity stake in the project.
