Coming Home to Tailored Classics
The world outside might have been fully immersed in the wet of winter, but inside one Corona del Mar home last Thursday, the spring season was fully underway. A dozen regional associates of the Worth Collection, an upscale women’s wear line based in New York and sold directly from homes instead of stores, gathered for a preview.
The 3-year-old Worth Collection is among a number of fashion companies providing an alternative to a clientele too busy and too dissatisfied with declining customer service to go to the malls.
Its tailored classics are designed with the ‘90s woman in mind, says regional manager Jane Urner. Attention to workmanship includes ribbon finishes on sleeve cuts and hand-finished buttonholes.
By selling through associates’ homes and reducing overhead, pieces in the line are 40% less than comparable apparel in department stores. The items range from $100 to $400.
The collection offers separates, in sizes 2 to 16, that can be paired “a million different ways,” Urner says, as opposed to ensemble dressing. For spring, there are 275 pieces to play with in crisp navy blue, red, hot pink, white and soothing moss, wheat and butter. A suit may have four blouse options, plus a skirt and trousers. And there are reversible belts and tank blouses.
