CALABASAS : Hearing Set on Firm Eyeing Move to City

The Calabasas Planning Commission will hold a public hearing next week on a tentative plan by a Canoga Park electronics brokerage company to move its headquarters and distribution facility to the city.

E&S; International Enterprises Inc. has applied for permits to build a 100,000-square-foot facility at Agoura and Lost Hills roads, said Community Development Director Steve Harris.

“We’re glad to see them,” he said. “It looks like a good project.”

The hearing will be Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

E&S; acts as a broker between electronics manufacturers and retailers, according to city officials. Some merchandise would be processed at the proposed distribution center, but most of it would go directly from the manufacturer to the retailers.

The facility would be staffed by about 100 employees, most of whom would work in the administrative end of the business, Harris said. About 30 would work in the distribution center.

The company would be in a business park under the city’s proposed General Plan, city officials said. The area is zoned for a business park with office and light industrial use.

“It’s terrific. The city is really high on this one, because it’s sweet, clean and low profile,” said Carol Amenta, executive director of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce. “It’s something that the city and everyone else can unite behind.”

The city was rocked last year by news that Lockheed Corp. planned to move its corporate headquarters from the city. City officials have since been looking for other businesses to help ease the economic impact of Lockheed’s departure.
