More than 5,000 people, including thousands of uniformed firefighters from virtually every state and Canadian province, packed the Seattle Center Arena on Wednesday in a memorial tribute to four firemen killed in a warehouse blaze last week.

Flags flew at half-staff across the state and a black ribbon hung from the landmark Space Needle.

A statement from President Clinton was read during the memorial service.

Seattle Fire Lt. Walter Kilgore, 45, Lt. Gregory Shoemaker, 43, James Brown, 25, and Randall Terlicker, 35, were lost when the floor of the building collapsed as they battled the blaze.
