Humanitarian: Sheinbergs to Receive Award Sunday

Sid and Lorraine Sheinberg are scheduled to receive the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Humanitarian Award on Sunday at the Century Plaza Hotel.

Sid Sheinberg is the president of MCA and co-founder of Hollywood Supports, an organization dedicated to preventing AIDS and sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace through education.

The award will be presented at the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s 1995 Tribute Dinner, which will include a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of European concentration camps during World War II.

Director Steven Spielberg, who will present the Sheinbergs with the award, will be joined by former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, the keynote speaker. Also to be honored are noted Holocaust survivors, witnesses and heroes, including Yukiko Sugihara, whose late husband, Chiune Sugihara, issued exit visas to more than 6,000 Jews while he was the Japanese consul to Lithuania, in defiance of his government’s policy.

Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
