COSTA MESA, NEWPORT BEACH : School District Ban on Smoking Extended
The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education has approved a policy that bans smoking at school stadiums.
The amended policy forbids smoking on any property owned or leased by the school district and was necessary for the district to be eligible for surtax funds from the sale of tobacco products, Supt. Mac Bernd said.
The update to the district’s 1992 smoking ban extends it to “all district property”--which includes sports stadiums and district-owned vehicles. Previously, only school and administrative buildings were covered.
