Middle Class and Talk Radio

Re “I Think, Therefore I Am,” Jan. 4, Commentary (or as we “middle class” prefer to say, cogito, ergo sum ):

I am a member of Adela de la Torre’s victimized “middle class.” I am terribly sorry that De la Torre bemoans the middle-class focus on emotions rather than reason. However, it happens to be the middle class that provides the means for De la Torre to pontificate from her ivory tower.

De la Torre should be aware that it is both unwise and ignorant to generalize about classes (or races) of people, yet she does exactly that in the last paragraph of her article.

I suggest De la Torre devote her “intellectual” efforts to teaching economics (sometimes referred to as the dismal science) and further remember that intellectual pursuits (reason) developed in the pristine setting of academia can produce such ideas as the reason why bumblebees cannot fly (but the just bumble along in the real world).

Oh, I’m sorry! Do the above comments brand me as “anti-intellectual,” unwilling to learn, or afflicted by “intellectual malaise”? Egad! How ghastly to be living in such a bucolic anti-intellectual middle-class environment.

Again, the ivory tower has issued an edict, and the message is that we the middle/lower classes are at fault. We are “unwilling to think” as evidenced by our listening to talk radio. Please inform De la Torre that we are thinking quite clearly, as evidenced by the expulsion of our liberal “leadership” in the House and Senate.

Her arrogance and condescension illustrate vividly why America has rejected liberalism and why the tough-mindedness and candor of Mr. Newt/Mr. Speaker do the same for our Rush to conservatism.
