VENTURA : Police Seek Law to Quell Loud Parties
Ventura police will ask the City Council on Monday to impose stiffer penalties on hosts of noisy parties.
The council will consider an ordinance that would allow police to bill hosts $218 if they are called out to the same residence three times or more in six months in response to complaints.
Police would have to determine that the gathering was a threat to public peace, health, safety or general welfare.
“We want to discourage people from hosting unreasonable and loud parties,” Capt. Randy G. Adams said Friday.
In his recommendation to the council, Adams noted that the department responds to about 70 party disturbance calls a month, many to the same address. In the case of one host, Adams said residents complained to the police about parties at least once a week and sometimes several times weekly.
