‘Bag Balm’ Finally Gets Overdue Recognition

How nice to know that Bag Balm is being recognized (“Humans Join the Trail of Udder Ointment Enthusiasts,” Dec. 26). It has been in our home for many years, and it has many uses.

A friend recently had visited her skin doctor for a facial skin problem; the doctor gave her a little tin of ointment. When asked what it was, she read what the doctor had written on the label and told us “bag balm.” We asked why it was called that, and she replied, “I guess it’s because one can just toss it in her bag.” We laughed and told her the real reason.

Bag Balm was also found to be a wonderful product to prevent and treat decubitus ulcers (bedsores), but the health department would not allow its use because the label said “for veterinary use only.” Too bad; it’s a great product.
