Avian adventures--The Oak Canyon Nature Center is offering a nature enrichment workshop on birding Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The workshop will include a guided nature hike.

Participants will learn how scientists identify and study different birds. The program will introduce the basic techniques of bird-watching and identifying bird calls and songs. The advantages of different types of beaks, feet and feathers will also be covered.

While both children and adults are welcome, children under age 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Class size is limited, and reservations are recommended. The fee is $5 per person.

To get to the Oak Canyon Nature Center, take the Riverside Freeway east to the Imperial Highway turnoff. Exit and head south to Nohl Ranch Road, then turn left again. Pass the Anaheim Hills Golf Course; the nature center is at the end of the road, with parking on the left.

Children’s program--Six- to 12-year-olds are invited to spend Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Oak Canyon Nature Center’s Science in Nature Club.

The one-hour sessions, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., cover a wide range of topics and activities, from ecological art to searching the canyon for hidden nests.

Sessions include hikes through the canyon, scientific experiments and investigations, games and live animal demonstrations. Class size is limited, and reservations are recommended.
