Pacific Wins When Titans Grow Cold

Pacific had too much firepower for Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night, especially in the final nine minutes.

The Tiger defense wasn’t bad, either.

Fullerton scored only one field goal down the stretch, and Pacific went on to a 78-62 Big West victory in Spanos Center.

Forward Marzell Clayton, the only senior in Pacific’s starting lineup, scored 16 points to lead the Tigers.

Fullerton shot only 32.8% and made only 13 of 24 free throws. The Titans missed five free throws in a row during one stretch in the final five minutes.

Pacific (9-6, 4-3) moved ahead of Fullerton (5-10, 3-4) in the conference standings.

“They really dominated us physically inside,” Fullerton Coach Bob Hawking said. “Clayton didn’t come into the game that strong statistically, but he really hurt us. Actually, I thought we did a pretty good job on their perimeter guys, but we broke down on our post defense.”

Pacific’s guards hurt Fullerton. Adam Jacobsen had 13 points and Corey Anders added 12.
