DIAMOND BAR : Air Quality Agency Closed on Mondays
As of this month, the Southland’s air quality agency is closed Mondays.
Officials at South Coast Air Quality Management District said the short week will save more than $100,000 a year in energy and janitorial costs.
To help reduce air pollution and traffic, the AQMD staff has been working 10-hour days, four days a week, since 1988. Shifts rotated so that about 20% of employees were off on any given day.
Now the entire office is shut down on Mondays. The decision to close on that day was reached after a survey of businesses, said James M. Lents, district executive officer for the AQMD.
