Calgene Inc. reported a second-quarter loss of $5.65 million, or 19 cents per share, down from a loss of $10.8 million, or 44 cents a year earlier. Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31, totaled $13.3 million, including a non-recurring $3,750,000 technology license sale. A year earlier, the company had revenue $6.3 million.
The Davis, Calif.-based agricultural biotechnology company attributed the decreased loss to the technology license sale and a $1.8 million reduction in expenses, primarily at Calgene Fresh.
