Region : Japan Business Group Plans Gift to Schools
A South Bay business organization plans to donate $100,000 in cash and products to South Bay schools this month.
The South Bay Japan Business Assn. said it will make the donations to 43 area schools in appreciation for the education they provide to Japanese students while their parents work in Southern California.
Schools in Torrance and on the Palos Verdes Peninsula will benefit most, said Rica Hirota, a representative of the nonprofit association. Donations also will be made to several schools in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. The schools were selected based on their enrollment of Japanese children whose parents work for the companies in the association.
The Japan Business Assn., which has groups in Los Angeles, Orange County and the South Bay, consists of 600 Japan-based companies operating in Southern California. The companies’ workers have about 900 children in South Bay schools.
