Gimmillaro to Stay at Long Beach State
Long Beach State announced the signing of women’s volleyball Coach Brian Gimmillaro to a three-year contract.
A source confirmed 49er Athletic Director Dave O’Brien created the new contract upon hearing that California had offered its women’s volleyball job to Gimmillaro, a three-time Big West Conference coach of the year. Terms of the agreement were not released.
“I’m happy where I am,” said Gimmillaro, who guided the 49ers to NCAA titles in 1989 and ’93. “I have no intention of ever coaching at another college.”
The 49ers finished 27-6 last season and won their fourth consecutive Big West championship. A 1970 graduate of Long Beach, Gimmillaro has a career record of 270-78.
Gimmillaro received a commitment from Misty May of Newport Harbor High. A two-time Times’ player of the year, May is one of the top recruits in the nation.
