SIMI VALLEY : Agreement Reached on Center Contractor
An insurance company and city negotiators reached an agreement Thursday on which of two contractors will be hired to complete the restoration of the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center.
Deputy City Manager Bob Heitzman said Hayward Construction of Monrovia beat out HMH Construction of Camarillo, submitting a bid of just under $2.2 million.
“Everybody was concerned about their particular interests--the bond company, the city and the new contractor,” Heitzman said of the lengthy negotiations. “We spent quite a few hours talking about it.”
Heitzman said work crews at Hayward Construction recently finished another renovation project in Palmdale, where they converted a former theater into a cultural arts center.
Vigilant Insurance Co. of New Jersey was responsible for funding a new contractor for the $2.6-million renovation of the former church when the original contractor was fired in December.
City Council members will be asked to approve the pact Monday, and work should begin later next week, Heitzman said.
