Dorsey Helps Northridge End Slump
Mike Dorsey ended a three-game slump and so did Cal State Northridge with an 85-68 victory over Cal State Sacramento Thursday night in an American West Conference game at the Northridge Gym.
Dorsey, a junior forward, scored 23 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds as Northridge raised its conference record to 2-0 and went to 5-13 overall before a crowd of 393 with its most lopsided victory in nearly a year.
Dorsey, who had been the Matadors’ scoring leader, had accounted for only 13 points during the three-game losing streak.
While Dorsey pounded away inside, Eric Gray and Ryan Martin hurt Sacramento from the perimeter. Gray made six of 11 three-point shots and equaled his career high with 19 points.
Martin (10 points) was three of six on three-pointers. Northridge made 10 of 19 three-point tries.
“One thing they did tonight was hit three-point shots like I hadn’t seen anybody hit all year,” said Mark Hunter, who scored 19 points for Sacramento (4-14, 0-1).
Freshman point guard Trenton Cross excelled off the bench for Northridge, getting nine points, four assists, three steals and easily shredding any backcourt pressure.
