COLLEGE SIGNINGS : Reilly, Lachapelle Land Division I-A Scholarships
Valencia linebacker Ryan Reilly and Edison free safety Bryan Lachapelle were among Orange County athletes who signed letters of intent Wednesday when the signing period for football began.
Reilly, 6 feet 4, 242 pounds, signed with Arizona State. He was a first-team All-Orange League selection.
Lachapelle, 6-1, 190 pounds and a Times Orange County first-team selection, signed with San Diego State.
Esperanza quarterback Chris Stretch, 6-0, 160 pounds, plans to play football at UC Davis, Aztec Coach Gary Meek said Thursday. Stretch, a first-team All-Sunset League selection, completed 59% of his passes for 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. The Aggies compete in a Division II conference but don’t offer athletic scholarships.
Brad Cervantes, who graduated from Trabuco Hills in 1994, signed with USC. Though he attended Saddleback College last fall, he didn’t play football and will have four years of eligibility with the Trojans.
Cervantes, a 6-4, 215-pound linebacker, was named the Pacific Coast League’s male athlete of the year in 1993-94. He received All-Southern Section Division VIII honors and helped the Mustangs win the Division VIII championship in 1993.
