POLICE BOND: Los Angeles city officials now say a proposed $100-million bond measure for two new police stations--including one in Panorama City--faces an uphill battle. . . . Sources say a majority of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee, which will discuss the issue Monday, feels that Councilman Richard Alarcon’s cost estimate needs more study. The council has until Feb. 15 to place a bond measure on the June ballot.

HOT IDEA: About 400 students at the Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City will measure air and water temperatures this spring for an international study of global warming. . . . The effort, called GLOBE, will involve youths from 100 countries and 1,500 U.S. schools. “When you have data from all over the world,” said teacher Wendy Van Norden, “you can compare it and look for trends.”

SWEET CHARITY: Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts allowed himself to be turned into a human sundae Saturday at the second annual Romantic Chocolate Festival (B1). . . . The event drew more than 2,000 people and raised money for the Lancaster Education Foundation.
