THOUSAND OAKS : Board to Reject Bid for Storage Space
Several Conejo Valley performing groups that asked the city for help finding office, rehearsal and storage space for their stage sets will not be able to use the new Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
Mayor Jaime Zukowski had asked the Performing Arts Center Board of Governors to look for room for the groups at the new $64-million facility. But the 15-member board will recommend at Tuesday’s council meeting that the groups look elsewhere for space.
They referred the request back to the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley--the organization that originally asked for assistance.
Arts Council President Rudyard Beldner first asked for help from the City Council in November. Part of the problem, he said, is that the nonprofit groups are now building sets on a much larger scale to conform to the stages at the Civic Arts Plaza. They used to build sets in garages, but now they need warehouse space.
The organizations are the Conejo Symphony, the Gold Coast Performing Arts Assn., the Santa Susana Repertory Company and Cabrillo Music Theater.
