BREA : Civic & Cultural Center Is Retrofitted With Technologically Advanced Lights
Brighter and more energy-efficient lighting is being installed at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center under a contract approved recently by the City Council.
Santa Ana-based Lighting Technology Services Inc. is charging slightly more than $158,000 to perform the retrofitting, which began late last month. Company President Russell Royal said he expects the project to be completed by mid-March.
An audit indicates that the new lighting system will save Brea more than $73,000 a year in electrical costs, meaning that the system will have paid for itself in just over two years.
The work involves replacing the lamps and ballast in fluorescent fixtures with more technologically advanced versions. Certain incandescent lamps and fixtures will also be replaced.
Mercury vapor lighting outside the police station will be replaced with metal halide lighting. Royal said the new lamps will be brighter and provide truer color than the existing lights.
The retrofitting is being performed during evening hours to minimize disruptions at City Hall.
