MOSCOW — President Boris N. Yeltsin on Wednesday named the reformist head of the federal bankruptcy agency to lead Russia’s privatization program, the presidential press service said.
Sergei Belyaev, 41, is described as a protege of Anatoly Chubais, the architect of Russia’s privatization program.
His predecessor, Vladimir Polevanov, shook investors’ confidence with comments suggesting key industries might be renationalized.
Yeltsin repudiated the views of Polevanov but until Wednesday had replaced him only with a temporary acting chairman for the State Property Committee.
