Once again, Damon Stoudamire doomed Stanford, scoring 29 points as No. 9 Arizona extended the 15th-ranked Cardinal’s misery at McKale Center into a second decade Thursday night with an 84-73 victory at Tucson.

Stoudamire had a career-high 45 points when the Wildcats beat Stanford, 89-83, in overtime a month ago. On Thursday, he dished out eight assists and scored 17 of his 29 points in the second half as Arizona (18-4, 8-2) overcame a 43-41 halftime deficit to retain its share of the Pacific 10 lead with UCLA.

“He probably had as much influence tonight as he did in the first game,” Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery said. “You come at him with quickness, and he jumps above you. You come at him with size, and he goes around you.”

Brevin Knight managed only 11 points, six below his average, and Dion Cross, Stanford’s leading scorer with a 19.1 average, managed only five against Reggie Geary as the Cardinal (15-4, 6-4) lost its 11th game in a row at McKale and its 15th consecutive game overall to Arizona.

Reserve David Harbour and freshman center Tim Young led the Cardinal with 20 points apiece.

Stanford trailed by 15 points early but erased that by shooting 58% in the first half.

Joe McLean’s only basket, a three-pointer with 5:46 left, put Arizona ahead for good, 70-69, after four second-half ties.
