Salvi Indicted on 7 Counts in Clinic Attacks
BOSTON — A grand jury returned seven indictments Tuesday against John C. Salvi III, the man charged with two fatal abortion clinic attacks in a Boston suburb.
Salvi is accused of killing two women and wounding five other people in a shooting rampage last year at two clinics in Brookline, Mass. The grand jury in Norfolk County, Mass., charged Salvi with two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of assault with intent to murder.
The grand jury took testimony from 156 witnesses over 12 days, authorities said.
Salvi is scheduled to appear today in Norfolk County Superior Court.
Any federal prosecution of Salvi will be deferred until after the state trial, U.S. Atty. Donald Stern told reporters.
