Harold Stanley “Stan” Teasdale, a retired service-station owner and longtime Newbury Park resident, has died after a long illness. He was 83.

Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Teasdale moved to California with his family and grew up in Inglewood, where he graduated from Inglewood High School and met his future wife, Audrey.

The couple married in 1935, after saving money for several years during the Depression.

In the 1940s, Teasdale and a partner purchased a Union gas station in Woodland Hills. Twenty years later, Teasdale sold the station and moved to Ventura County, where he purchased another Union station on Moorpark Road near the Los Robles Golf Course.

He retired partially eight years later when pain in his knees began interfering with his work at the station.

Teasdale then worked part time for the Thousand Oaks News-Chronicle delivering papers to coin machines and residents who were skipped. He also worked at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Thousand Oaks, helping with the landscaping and maintenance work.

“He didn’t completely retire until he was in his 70s because he did all kinds of odd things,” said his daughter-in-law, Mary Teasdale.

When not working, Teasdale spent much time tinkering with model railroads, which, at one time, took up a bedroom in the couple’s apartment.

In addition to his wife, Teasdale is survived by two children, Sharon Lexau and Bruce Teasdale of Thousand Oaks; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Keith Teasdale.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Thousand Oaks.
