Man, Teen Arrested in Robbery Attempt; Third Man at Large
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Two males, ages 14 and 23, were arrested Sunday in the attempted robbery of a motorist, but police were still seeking a third suspect who allegedly fired several shots as the victim drove away, police said.
The victim, whom police identified only as a 32-year-old man from Mission Viejo, told officers he was driving southbound in the 17300 block of Queens Lane about 5:30 p.m. when he had to slow down because of a group that had gathered at a parked produce truck.
Four or five young males approached the victim’s car, one of them brandishing a small-caliber handgun, and demanded money, Huntington Beach Police Sgt. William Stuart said.
When the victim accelerated, one of the suspects fired two or three shots in the direction of his car, Stuart said.
Police later arrested the 14-year-old boy, who was taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall, and Jose Antonio Montejano, 23, of Huntington Beach, who is being held on suspicion of attempted armed robbery at the Huntington Beach Jail.
The third suspect, described as a Latino male in his early 20s, wearing a black baseball cap and blue T-shirt, was still at large.
