Re “Request for More Quake Aid May Face Fight in Congress,” Feb. 7:
It appears that Rep. Dave Obey (D-Wis.) and some of his colleagues have missed the big picture. They want to halt federal assistance for national disasters and let the states pick up the bill.
OK, fine. While were at it, let’s have California secede from the union, too. California is one of the largest economies in the world. We can take all those taxes we pay into the federal system and use them for state purposes. Everyone that reads this letter should consider writing his congressman and telling them such. Then watch old Dave change his tune.
