AGOURA HILLS, CALABASAS : Sobriety Checks to Start Thursday Night
- Share via
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol will set up sobriety checkpoints from 8 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday.
The two checkpoints will be in Agoura Hills and Calabasas. Typically, about eight drunk drivers are arrested at such checkpoints out of the 400 to 1,000 motorists stopped, said Sgt. Kevin Mauch of the Lost Hills sheriff’s station.
“We set up a detour into one lane of traffic,” said Mauch, after which an officer will speak with each driver for about 30 seconds to assess his or her sobriety.
Mauch also warned that a second police car will be on hand to follow vehicles that make a U-turn to avoid the checkpoints.
