Jaromir Jagr’s league-leading 14th goal finished off a wild third period featuring three lead changes, and the Penguins defeated the Quebec Nordiques, 5-4, Tuesday in the first matchup of the NHL’s two top teams at Pittsburgh.
“It was a very entertaining game,” Penguin Coach Eddie Johnston said. “After watching so many games in our league that are clutch-and-grab, it’s nice to see a game like this.”
The victory kept the Penguins in first place in the Northeast Division. Quebec dropped out of a first-place tie by falling to 13-3-0.
N.Y. Rangers 5, Florida 3--The Stanley Cup champion Rangers climbed above .500 for the first time this season, scoring twice on deflections off an opposing player to edge the Panthers at Miami.
