COMMUNITY COLLEGE ALL-LEAGUE BASKETBALL : Carter, Clark, Murdent Honored

Anthony Carter of Saddleback and Keon Clark of Irvine Valley were selected Orange Empire Conference co-players of the year by the men’s basketball coaches.

Carter, a forward from Atlanta, averaged 19 points for Saddleback, which tied Riverside for the conference title. Clark, a 6-foot-11 center from Danville, Ill., tied for the conference scoring title with a 22.6-point average. He also led in rebounds (20.5) and field-goal percentage (68%).

Saddleback’s Bill Brummel was selected coach of the year.

Julie Murdent of Golden West was selected the women’s Orange Empire Conference player of the year by a vote of coaches.

Murdent, a sophomore forward from Fountain Valley High, averaged 20 points and nine rebounds for Golden West, which won the conference. Golden West’s Dick Stricklin was named coach of the year.
