SEASON AT A GLANCE: Undefeated in 37 bouts, Roman (147 pounds) won his second consecutive Channel League championship, as well as championships at the Morro Bay and Moorpark tournaments in January. Roman won a league title as a junior at 140 pounds. On Saturday, Roman will enter the Southern Section Masters Meet at Fountain Valley High with hopes of qualifying for the State tournament March 3-4 in Stockton.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Roman defeated Pompeyo Tabarez of Central, 15-2, on Saturday to win the Southern Section Division I championship. Roman recorded three victories by decision and one by pin in the two-day tournament at El Monte High. “Last year, it was kind of a long season and I guess I didn’t want to win badly enough,” Roman said. “This year, I dedicated myself to the season and just went out and wrestled as hard as I could.”
