HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL : Free Throws Send Fremont Forward
Raymond Simms made two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to break a tie and give No. 8 Fremont a 54-52 victory over Chatsworth in a City Section Division 4-A boys’ quarterfinal at Fremont. Dony Wicher finished with 16 points and Antonio Hines added 15 for Fremont (27-3). Chatsworth (20-5) had two possessions in the final 15 seconds but could not score.
No. 7 Fairfax 57, Palisades 45--Duane Davis scored 27 points to lead the host Lions (22-5) to a City Section 4-A quarterfinal victory over the Dolphins (17-8).
No. 12 Crenshaw 75, Grant 61--Raymond Palmer had 14 points, Damian Willis added 11 and Robert Parker and Antonio Simpson each had 10 for the two-time defending city and state champion Cougars (21-5) in a City Section 4-A quarterfinal victory over Grant (17-8) at Crenshaw.
GIRLS
No. 2 Newbury Park 68, Fullerton 21--The Panthers (26-1) took a 31-3 lead midway through the second quarter then rolled to their 21st win in a row in a Southern Section III-AA quarterfinal at Fullerton (14-12).
No. 6 Crenshaw 81, Taft 43--Naila Moseley scored 27 points for the Cougars (25-0) in a City Section 4-A quarterfinal victory over Taft (18-3) at Crenshaw.
