Roads: Santa Monica Blvd. Expansion Plan
Where did the MTA get the notion (“Superhighway Hits Roadblock,” Jan. 26) to convert a two-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard into a 10-lane street? The idea is preposterous! Such an action would be tantamount to planting a nuclear pipe bomb in Westwood. Only an incompetent plumber uses a drain opener in the middle of a long clogged pipe. The city of Beverly Hills on the east and the 405 underpass on the west would be very sticky corks in that pipe, while the pressure and pollution grow and grow and grow.
Before the MTA has resolved the fiasco it created on Hollywood Boulevard, it is planning another catastrophe for Westwood.
