In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Azusa Pacific 9-5, Concordia 6-2--Ruben Neblas allowed two runs and five hits and struck out six in seven innings for Azusa Pacific. Azusa Pacific scored six runs in the fifth inning of the first game to put the game out of reach. Concordia committed six errors in the doubleheader.
In nonconference baseball:
Long Beach State 4, Cal 1--Jeff Tagliaferri’s double and Jeff Liefer’s single helped key a two-run second inning for Long Beach State (7-6). Tagliaferri, a freshman, had two doubles and scored twice and Liefer, a sophomore, also had two hits for the 49ers. Cal dropped to 6-9.
In Big West Conference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 6, UC Santa Barbara 1--Chris Tontz swept No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2, then teamed with Fred Bach to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, for UC Irvine (7-2). No. 2 Marc Tardif also swept No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
