Kaiser, Union Reach Tentative Accord: Kaiser Aluminum Corp. said the deal with negotiators for its 3,000 union workers could end a six-day strike. Union members rejected a previous contract offer by a vote of about 1,400 to 1,200, company officials said. A spokesman said the Houston-based firm is optimistic that the latest contract will be approved because union locals have unanimously endorsed it. The new agreement contains two unspecified changes to the earlier pact. Plants affected by the strike are two aluminum smelters in Tacoma and Mead, Wash.; Kaiser’s only aluminum rolling mill, in Trentwood, Wash.; a rod and bar plant in Newark, Ohio, and an alumina refinery in Gramercy, La.
