Phil Gramm

Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas) is quoted as saying, “I believe I am more conservative than Bob Dole, I believe I am more committed to fundamentally changing American government than Bob Dole” (Feb. 20).

Does this man have a clue as to the meaning of “conservative”? Or is he an oxymoron? He sounds like a dangerous radical to me.

Regarding “Gramm’s Relentless Crusade,” Feb. 14:

I particularly like the way you dig up facts little known, but extremely important, such as Gramm’s five deferments from military service during the Vietnam War. I wonder, will Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) call him a traitor, as he did President Clinton?

The taxpayers’ subsidy of Gramm’s education is something he should wish others to have. Without it he would be just another redneck.

The article did what Phil Gramm does--bore! If the country lost its senses and elected Gramm as President, we would have to relive the boring ‘50s again, which would ultimately make us live another ‘60s--with all that good music!

On “60 Minutes” (Feb. 19), Gramm said, “There are lots of people running for President in ’96. I don’t know which one will win, but I am sure of one who will not win, Bill Clinton.”

The senator made a mistake. He can be sure of two who will not win. The other is Gramm.
