Seal Beach Leisure World residents recycled 114.5 tons of material in January, with the largest share being newspapers:

Newspapers: 70.4%

Miscellaneous: 20.1%

Cardboard: 2.2%

Glass: 7.3%

Former U.S. Education Secretary William J. Bennett will speak at the Faces of Caring benefit for the Padrinos support group of Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans will be among the people who will be honored for their contributions to the hospital.

The benefit will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine hotel.
