LA HABRA : School Board’s Gift Policy Is Approved
La Habra City School District board members have approved a policy detailing how and what gifts should be received and used in the district.
Under the policy, gifts including grants, bequests, services, labor and material goods should support instructional programs and should not be sought to replace what is otherwise provided by the district or “impair the district’s commitment to providing equal educational opportunities to all students.”
In addition, those who want to give the district a gift must first present plans for the gift to the superintendent.
The plans must detail the nature of the gift, the intended recipient, the costs of installation, operation, labor or other work associated with the gift and any special purpose for the gift’s use.
The superintendent can accept the gift and then the school board must acknowledge the donor and use it in the manner it was intended, if possible.
