Marvel to Buy Skybox for $150 million: Marvel Entertainment Group Inc. said it agreed to acquire Skybox International Inc., a maker of sports and other trading cards as it seeks to bolster its position in the struggling trading card business. New York-based Marvel, the nation’s largest comic book publisher and maker of Fleer baseball and hockey cards, said it will pay $16 a share in cash for all of Skybox in a merger that has been approved by the boards of both companies. Shares of Durham, N.C.-based Skybox rose $2.84 to $15.72 on Nasdaq after the announcement. Marvel shares added $1.375 to $16.875 on the New York Stock Exchange. The deal is the latest in a string of acquisitions for Marvel, which is controlled by financier Ronald Perelman.
